Welcome to the Kiwanis Club of West Omaha
 
Founded in 1938 for Kiwanis Club of Greater Omaha and founded in 1961 for Kiwanis Club Westside which have merged together to form the Kiwanis Club of West Omaha. Each has a rich history of community service throughout the years. We are an eclectic mix of ages, genders, occupations, backgrounds and interests. We are all passionate about making our community and the world a better place for children so they can thrive. We are devoted to serving the children in our local community and also children all across the country and worldwide through unique and innovative service projects and fundraising initiatives. Members and invited guests meet each Monday at Noon for food, fellowship, and for the opportunity to hear from speakers about important matters in our region.

The meeting was opened with a prayer led by Joann.This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Joann and Glen plan to attend the Division Council Meeting on Wednesday at 7 am.  At First Watch.  All are welcome to attend.
 
Joann plans to attend the District Convention in Des Moines on August 2nd & 3rd.  Contact Kip if you would like to attend it.
 
Steve said we have 9 teams for our golf outing. We had 16 last year. We will still make a profit. He will make a recommendation to the Board to continue with it next year. Registration is at 8:30 and Tee Off is 9:00. Registration and raffle volunteers are to be there before 8:00.
 
Glen reminded everyone to email him your service hours for May.
 
Deb brought in clothing and food items for the homeless shelters. She also brought in a table that Bill will deliver to Moving Veterans Forward. Barb brought in food items.  Remember you can bring gently used items and food items to any meeting . Joann and Deb will deliver the items to the shelters.
 
Dennis said we are up to 168 flags to place and pickup. The next date is Flag Day on Friday, June 14th. . He could use 1 more volunteer for pickup.  Meet at Loveland School. Placing flags at 7 am and pickup is at 6 pm.
 
Joann asked everyone to give some thought to a viable project for us to support.
 
Barb received an email from Completely Kid's thanking us for supplying backpacks and school supplies last year. They are reaching out for our support again this year. They asked to have the backpacks delivered by August 1st.
 
We budgeted $1200.00 for backpacks for this year. Barb will use half for Completely Kid's and half for Sacred Heart School. 
 
Vince is not sure who has speakers for July. Notify VInce if you are planning on arranging speakers for July.
 
Rod told us about Shades of Blue - USAF Jazz Ensemble Hosted By Davies Amphitheater. Event starts on Saturday, 8 June 2024 and happening at 104 Lake Drive, 51534, Glenwood, IA.
 
Rod introduced our speaker. Sara Atkins-Rauwald. She is the Marketing Director for The Big Garden in Omaha. Their Mission is to Teach, Build, Grow. Teaching people, Building Communities, and Growing Food Sovereignty.Their goal is to reduce hunger by increasing access to fresh, healthy produce and teaching people to grow, cook, & preserve their own.  It was amazing to hear how many lives they touch through The Big Garden.  You can learn more by going to their website  https://biggarden.org/
 
Our speaker June 10th is Tiffany H. Regan: Executive Director for Omaha Parks Foundation.
 
Next Meeting is June 10th at noon at Legends.
