Welcome to the Kiwanis Club of West Omaha
 
Founded in 1938 for Kiwanis Club of Greater Omaha and founded in 1961 for Kiwanis Club Westside which have merged together to form the Kiwanis Club of West Omaha. Each has a rich history of community service throughout the years. We are an eclectic mix of ages, genders, occupations, backgrounds and interests. We are all passionate about making our community and the world a better place for children so they can thrive. We are devoted to serving the children in our local community and also children all across the country and worldwide through unique and innovative service projects and fundraising initiatives. Members and invited guests meet each Monday at Noon for food, fellowship, and for the opportunity to hear from speakers about important matters in our region.

The meeting was opened with a prayer led by Joel.This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

We honored Jack Jackson for his 50 years of service in Kiwanis. Jack said being in Kiwanis has been a great experience. He has met a lot of interesting people over the years. His Dad and another person started the West Omaha Kiwanis Club in 1962. Jack joined that club in 1974. He has been to 2 International Conventions. He learned a lot at each convention. 
 
Joann was installed as Lieutenant Governor at the District Convention in Des Moines last weekend.
 
Kip asked for volunteers to line up speakers for September, October and November. Rod volunteered for September, Dennis for October and Frank for November.  Dale has August.
 
Dennis will be sending out information on placing and picking up flags on Monday, September 2nd and Wednesday, September 11th. Contact Dennis if you are available to volunteer.
 
Deb brought in a can of soup today to demonstrate how bringing in even 1 item will help the homeless shelters that she and Joann deliver the items to.  You can bring in 1 item or several items. It can be food, clothing or household items.
 
Rod reminded everyone of the opportunity to be a volunteer at AllPlay fall season. It is from August 10th to September 14th. They need a lot of volunteers. Sign up is easy. Go to allplay.org 
 
Rod gave us some information on the Millard North Key Club. They have the educators to lead it. They need a Kiwanis Club to sponsor it. It has been suggested to have our club be the sponsor. Rod and Glen would be our representatives with the club. Rod said Key Club International is well organized. They have a 51 page guideline to help the sponsors. Rod is waiting for a call back from the school for him to get more information on how to proceed with this.
 
October 1st is the Installation Dinner at Champions Run Country Club. Details will be coming.
 
Joann would like help in creating a club survey. Contact Joann if you'd like to help.
 
Joann said we need to have the Youth Protection Guidelines presented to our club. Joann is going to contact Linda Placzek about presenting them.
 
Joann reported on several items from the District Convention she attended last weekend.  
There is likely to be a dictate to submit a club plan for membership.
If club name is on anything that you no longer support, get it off there.
Breakout Session: Andrew Allen, CEO/President YSS. YSS is a local organization that addresses the homeless individuals and families. It's a comprehensive behavioral change organization. An interesting statistically, each classroom in IA has a kid who attempted suicide.
Breakout Session:  Welcome to the Neighborhood by Jolene Philo. Jolene discussed life with a dad who was diagnosed with MS and how kind and helpful the neighbors were.
The Foundation is accepting grant applications. It would be worth looking into this for our Clothes for Kids project.
Joann volunteered her condo's party room for a Key Club Rally on October 3rd or rain date of October 17th.
Election results for 24-25 fiscal year. Tim McGee from Chariton is Vice Governor, Brian Wells from Bellevue is Governor-Elect and John Boltz from Hastings is Governor.
 
Board Meeting is Tuesday, August 6th at 6:30 at Kip's office.
 
Next Meeting is August 12th at noon at Legends.
