Welcome to the Kiwanis Club of West Omaha
 
Founded in 1938 for Kiwanis Club of Greater Omaha and founded in 1961 for Kiwanis Club Westside which have merged together to form the Kiwanis Club of West Omaha. Each has a rich history of community service throughout the years. We are an eclectic mix of ages, genders, occupations, backgrounds and interests. We are all passionate about making our community and the world a better place for children so they can thrive. We are devoted to serving the children in our local community and also children all across the country and worldwide through unique and innovative service projects and fundraising initiatives. Members and invited guests meet each Monday at Noon for food, fellowship, and for the opportunity to hear from speakers about important matters in our region.

The meeting was opened with a prayer led by Glen.  This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
 
Attendance 15 members.
 
The 50/50 drawing was held with no winner.
 
Vince collected Happy Bucks.
 
Kip started the business discussion:
A Board is scheduled for tomorrow night, October 15. Items for discussion will include the budget for the new business year and special projects.
 
Dale stated that Friday is the first day, of the new school session, for reading at Sacred Heart.  The volunteer reading positions are filled.
 
Barb stated that she is planning to complete soon the initial food order, of the new business year, for the Ronald McDonald House. 
 
Barb also stated that she plans to contact the Social Worker and start the planning for the annual Clothing for Kids program.  Her goal is to complete this by Thanksgiving.
 
Dennis stated the speaker for next week is Linda Brichacek, of Kiwanis, to present a program for Youth Protective Services.  This an important presentation to receive due to our many interactions with kids during our various special projects.
 
Frank discussed his on-going planning with the Salvation Army Night Watch Program.  He has spots for the following dates - December 10 and 26, January 21, and February 18.  He will send more specific information - such as arrival times, etc soon.  He passed out a sign up sheet. 
 
Vince also passed out a sign up sheet for those willing to take a month during the next business year to find weekly guest speakers.  He will also have Salvation Army Bell Ringing information as it gets closer to Christmas.
 
The Guest Speaker for today was Valerie Stoj of the Douglas County Election Commission.
 
The next meeting is October 21, 12 noon at Legends.
