Welcome to the Kiwanis Club of West Omaha
 
Founded in 1938 for Kiwanis Club of Greater Omaha and founded in 1961 for Kiwanis Club Westside which have merged together to form the Kiwanis Club of West Omaha. Each has a rich history of community service throughout the years. We are an eclectic mix of ages, genders, occupations, backgrounds and interests. We are all passionate about making our community and the world a better place for children so they can thrive. We are devoted to serving the children in our local community and also children all across the country and worldwide through unique and innovative service projects and fundraising initiatives. Members and invited guests meet each Monday at Noon for food, fellowship, and for the opportunity to hear from speakers about important matters in our region.

The meeting was opened with a prayer led by Kip.  This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
 
Attendance 16 members.
 
Kip started the business discussion:
Update on Barb's knee surgery - she is starting to move around the house and has started physical therapy. 
 
Dale reported that the people at Sacred Heart felt that the special meal for the class last Monday, December 9, was successful.  The kids are working on a writing assignment to describe their favorite part of the meal.
 
Salvation Army Bell Ringing was cancelled last Saturday, December 14.  Unfortunately the Salvation Army coordinator failed to provide a timely notice and several of our members did arrive for their scheduled time.
 
Jack reported on the Scholarship Program.  Applications were sent to the participating schools.  However, he did state that the applications were also sent two new schools - Westview High School and Concordia.
 
Jack also reported that during this past icy weather, Bob Lotus's wife fell on their porch and broke her femur.  Shortly after Bob was found in his home possibly suffering from a stroke.  We will hope for good updates.  Please monitor your email for updates from Jack and others.
 
A Completely Kids volunteering effort was completed last week with four of our members - Rod, Rich, Dennis, and Ralph.  The effort was especially beneficial to the program due to the Club members the only volunteers.They prepared over 1,000 food bags.
 
The December 17 board meeting was rescheduled to January 8.
 
The normal Monday meeting for December 30, the date between Christmas and New Years, is cancelled.
 
The next meeting is scheduled for December 23, at 12 Noon, at Legends.

Due to this meeting with the Sacred Heart Second Grade Class lunch we had increased attendance:
Club 15 members
Children 13
School leaders - Mr Jensen - Principal, Mrs Plumb -Teacher, and Karen - Assistant.  
We also had a guest - Tara Kaisershot
 
Due to the Sacred Heart attendance we did not conduct the 50/50 drawing or Happy Bucks collected.
 
Kip started the business discussion:
Barb had her knee surgery this past Friday and initial reports are that the surgery went well and she will start physical therapy this week. 
 
Dale reported on Sacred Heart:
Reading was completed December 6 - readers included Dana, Dale, and Joann.
Reading dates for January are the 10th and the second date to be determined.
       
Dale also reported that Completely Kids is scheduled for Wednesday - members to help include Rod, Rich, Dennis, and Ralph. 
 
Salvation Army Bell Ringing was completed last Saturday, December 7 (one entrance location) and the next date is December 14 (two entrance locations).  Volunteers confirmed.
 
Glen asked that everyone get their service hours to him by tonight.
 
The next Board Meeting is scheduled for December 17.
 
Dale led the Christmas Program:
The children and members each stood and introduced themselves.
The children also told their favorite school subject.
Dale also asked the children questions on the meaning of Christmas.
 
After the meal Tara Kaisershot gave each of the children a Christmas gift bag.  Tara and Barb prepared the gift bags.
 
The next meeting is scheduled for December 16, at 12 Noon, at Legends.

Dale reported on Sacred Heart:
Next reading is this coming Thursday.  Scheduled readers include Dana, Dale, and Joann.
Next reading dates are in January.  Dates and scheduled readers to be determined.
The Christmas Lunch with the Sacred Heart Kids is next Monday, December 9.
 
Vince reconfirmed that the Salvation Army Bell ringing dates are December 7 (one entrance location) and December 14 (two entrance locations).  All times have confirmed volunteers.
 
Vince also passed around the sheet with listed months for members to schedule guest speakers.  Several         months are still open.
 
The next Completely Kids is date is December 11, scheduled volunteers include Dennis and Dale.
 
Frank reported on the Night Watch Program.  The first date is December 10 which Frank will take.  He will send the future schedule.
 
The next Board Meeting is scheduled for December 17.
 
The Guest Speaker was Erin Burdig of the Food Bank of the Heartland.
 
The next meeting is scheduled for December 9, at 12 Noon, at Legends.
