Welcome to the Kiwanis Club of West Omaha
 
Founded in 1938 for Kiwanis Club of Greater Omaha and founded in 1961 for Kiwanis Club Westside which have merged together to form the Kiwanis Club of West Omaha. Each has a rich history of community service throughout the years. We are an eclectic mix of ages, genders, occupations, backgrounds and interests. We are all passionate about making our community and the world a better place for children so they can thrive. We are devoted to serving the children in our local community and also children all across the country and worldwide through unique and innovative service projects and fundraising initiatives. Members and invited guests meet each Monday at Noon for food, fellowship, and for the opportunity to hear from speakers about important matters in our region.

Kip started the business discussion:
Dale gave updates on two items:
Completely Kids is still scheduled for tomorrow.  Dana, Joann, Rich and Dale are scheduled to help.
Barb, Dave, and Dale read at Sacred Heart last Friday.  He also provided November reading dates of the 8th and the 22nd.
 
Barb also provided updates on two items:
She passed out a sign up sheet for the Clothing for Kids program.  The date is November 19, 5:45, at the Walmart.  She is still working with the Social Worker on the number of kids.
She also plans to deliver, on November 12, purchased frozen food for the Ronald McDonald House. This is the first of three possible deliveries during this business year.
 
Frank updated the Salvation Army Night Watch program.  He still needs one volunteer for December 26.
 
Joann passed out "Sticky Pads" to all members as part of her program to deliver small gifts when she attends meeting.  She provided updates on two items:
Last week she attended a meeting at the Bellevue-Offutt Club in which a Douglas County Sheriff talked on items that included Scam Protection.  Attached is information provided on Scam Assistance.
She also stated that the next Division 20 Council Meeting is scheduled for November 6, 7:00 AM, at  the First Watch on 72nd Street.
 
Kip stated the Glen Fineman's wife had back surgery last week.  She reportedly is doing fine so far with recovery.
 
The Guest Speaker was Shawn McCarville, the Executive Director of the Project Pink Program.
 
The next meeting is November 4, 12 PM at Legends.

Attendance 11 members.  Also, one guest attended - Deb Rost's husband Eric Rost.

Happy Bucks was collected.  Deb Rost also donated $16 from her ongoing collection of aluminum cans.
 
Frank started the business discussion:
He passed out a signup sheet for the Salvation Army Night Watch program.  He is still in need of one volunteer for December.
 
Joel provided information on a possible Inter-Club this Friday with the Kiwanis Club of Offutt AFB.  The speaker is County Sheriff Hanson.  The meeting is from 12 to 1 PM (no lunch provided, you can bring your own) at the Bellevue University Administration Building.
    
Joann stated she attended an SLP event at Avery Elementary.  The event had the K-Kids collecting coins and making signs for an upcoming food baskets event.
 
Joann also stated that she has had contact with Sarah Ross.  Although Sarah is at Brookstone at this time she is still interested in continuing with the Club.
 
Barb provided information on the upcoming Clothes for Kids.  The date is November 19 at 5:45 PM at Walmart.  She will start asking for volunteers soon.
 
Dale stated that they read this past Friday at Sacred Heart and will read again this coming Friday.  He is in need of one more volunteer.  He also stated that the next Completely Kids is October 29.  He has volunteers identified. 
 
The Guest Speaker for today was Linda Placzek (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).  She presented training and information on Kiwanis Youth Protection Services.  A followup email will come out with information on the Kiwanis Youth Protection Program.
 
The next meeting is October 28, 12 PM at Legends.  Last week, in error, I stated that the October 21 meeting was at 1 PM.  The weekly meetings are always at 12 PM and I apologize for the wrong time report.

Kip started the business discussion:
A Board is scheduled for tomorrow night, October 15. Items for discussion will include the budget for the new business year and special projects.
 
Dale stated that Friday is the first day, of the new school session, for reading at Sacred Heart.  The volunteer reading positions are filled.
 
Barb stated that she is planning to complete soon the initial food order, of the new business year, for the Ronald McDonald House. 
 
Barb also stated that she plans to contact the Social Worker and start the planning for the annual Clothing for Kids program.  Her goal is to complete this by Thanksgiving.
 
Dennis stated the speaker for next week is Linda Brichacek, of Kiwanis, to present a program for Youth Protective Services.  This an important presentation to receive due to our many interactions with kids during our various special projects.
 
Frank discussed his on-going planning with the Salvation Army Night Watch Program.  He has spots for the following dates - December 10 and 26, January 21, and February 18.  He will send more specific information - such as arrival times, etc soon.  He passed out a sign up sheet. 
 
Vince also passed out a sign up sheet for those willing to take a month during the next business year to find weekly guest speakers.  He will also have Salvation Army Bell Ringing information as it gets closer to Christmas.
 
The Guest Speaker for today was Valerie Stoj of the Douglas County Election Commission.

The Installation Dinner, held last week was a success.
 
The Club Dues status is going well.  It is possible we may have only one person leave the Club.  That  person is Bill Spiecker who regrets leaving but his wife is in need of more full-time care.  He also stated in his resignation notice that enjoyed talking with Club members and the informative guest speakers.     
 
Vince is preparing the list of people who will take on specific months to identify the weekly guest speakers.  The remainder of this calendar year looks good.
 
Frank has identified two dates for our Club to help with the Salvation Army Night Watch Program.  These are December 2 and in February.  He will have a signup sheet at the next meeting. 
 
Dale stated that the Completely Kids next date is October 29 and he has the volunteer positions filled.  He also stated that the first Sacred Heart reading is October 18 from 1 to 2 PM.  He also has volunteers set for the reading.
 
Deb stated that next week she plans to make a trip a recycling center to drop turn in aluminum cans.  If anyone has cans they should bring these next week.
 
Joann stated that she contacted Sarah Ross recently and Sarah had been very sick but was recovering.Joann passed round a get well card for signatures and get-well wishes.
 
Guest Speakers were from the Omaha Airport Authority -Shannon Wiig and Carolyn Kroger.  They talked about the airport renovations with an emphasis on the Ambassador Program (information booth volunteers.
 
The next meeting is next week at the Legends locations, 69th and Pacific.
