Welcome to the Kiwanis Club of West Omaha
 
Founded in 1938 for Kiwanis Club of Greater Omaha and founded in 1961 for Kiwanis Club Westside which have merged together to form the Kiwanis Club of West Omaha. Each has a rich history of community service throughout the years. We are an eclectic mix of ages, genders, occupations, backgrounds and interests. We are all passionate about making our community and the world a better place for children so they can thrive. We are devoted to serving the children in our local community and also children all across the country and worldwide through unique and innovative service projects and fundraising initiatives. Members and invited guests meet each Monday at Noon for food, fellowship, and for the opportunity to hear from speakers about important matters in our region.

Joel did not have any information on interclubs at this time. He said to feel free to make suggestions to him.

Salvation Army Bell ringing schedule is posted on our website. It lists the date, time, place and the name of the volunteer.

Vince is arranging speakers for December.  

The Board Meeting for November 29th was postponed.

Barb, Dave, Dale and Rich will volunteered for reading at Sacred Heart School for November 30th. Next reading is December 14th. Glen and Rod volunteered. 2 more are needed. Contact Dale if you can volunteer.

Our Christmas lunch  for the 2nd grade class from Sacred Heart School will be on December 11th at Legends.  Try to be early to greet the children when they get to Legends.

No dates at this time to help with Completely Kid's.

Rod reminded everyone he and his wife will be at Bailey Pointe Assisted Living on Monday, December at 6 pm if you are interested in learning how to have game night with the residents the first Monday of the month in January, February and March. Contact Rod if you would be available.

Deb had a suggestion for a way for us to help shelters. She suggested that we bring something for the shelters to our meeting each week. Ideas are food, clothing, toy's, tools etc. Deb and Joann will make sure they get delivered to a shelter. 

Be sure to send your November service hours to Glen.

Joann introduced our speaker Tiffany Awortive of the Boys Town National Hotline. The Boys Town ​National Hotline is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and is staffed by specially trained Boys Town counselors. It is accredited by the American Association of Suicidology The statistics she presented were amazing. We are fortunate to have this sevice in our city.

December 4th speaker will be from the Super Nova Volley Ball Team.

Rod invited  Mike as a guest for our meeting today. He was a former member of the Dundee Kiwanis Club.

Bill invited his wife Barb as a guest for our meeting today. 

Vince has the schedule for Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army. The first date is December 9th at Nebraska Furniture Mart  in the Electronics Building by Subway. The 2nd date is December 16 at J C Penney's South Entrance at Westroads Mall. All time slots are filled. Contact Vince if you have a question regarding your time slot and location.

Vince passed around the sign up sheet for speakers.  July, September, October and November of 2024 are open. Contact Vince if you would like to sign up for a month.

Dale said reading at Sacred Heart School went real well Thursday.  Steve, Greg, Kip and Dale were the Readers.  November 30th is the next time for reading. Barb, Dave, Rich and Dale volunteered to do it.

Rod has a small service opportunity for 2 people. It is to go to Bailey Pointe, 113th & Miracle Hill Drive once a month for January, February & March to play a game with the residents. It's usually for an hour. Contact Rod for more information and if you are available to volunteer for this.

Joann introduced our speaker Ann Woodford, Community Relations Manager for Ronald McDonald House. Their singular mission is to help improve the health and well-being of sick children.We do this by supporting those kids and their families with everything from housing to haircuts. We help them access care, reduce their financial burdens, provide psychosocial support to keep families together, and help coordinate with their health care teams to enhance clinical experiences and outcomes.

Whatever it takes, if we can do it, we will. Because even a challenging new normal doesn’t have to feel abnormal or insurmountable. Ann gave an excellent presentation.

Speaker for November 27th is Tiffany Awortwi, Supervisor of the Boys Town National Hotline, a 24X7 crisis counseling service.

Barb gave a huge Thank You to the following for volunteering for Clothes for Kid's. Joann, Kip and Deborah, Joel and Colleen, Ralph and Connie, Barb and Dale Irwin, Rod and Frank. It was a successful and rewarding evening. All 8 families came. Some with their children some without. Looking forward to doing this again next year.

Barb received the following email from April Anderson the Social Worker she works with at Westside School. 

"Good morning, I am so happy everything went well. Thank you and everyone involved in the event for helping so many of our families. We appreciate it so much!! Have a happy holiday season! April "

Dale reported Completely Kid's was canceled for this week. They had enough volunteers.

Reading at Sacred Heart is Thursday at 1:45 pm. Greg, Kip, Glen and Dale volunteered. Rod and Steve are alternates.

December 11th is the party at Legends for the Sacred Heart School 2nd Graders. It would be good to have a big attendance by our members. Also try to be here early. The bus may have the children here earlier than noon.

Joann received a Thank you for our club sponsoring 3 kids to go to the Key Leader Conference.

Joann introduced our speaker Kassey Trahanas Supervisory Park Ranger and Visitor Center Manager for Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail. The Visitor Center is next to the Bob Kerry Pedestrian Bridge on Riverfront Drive. Kassey was a very knowledgeable speaker. She shared a lot of interesting facts about the expedition. Several replicas of items that were used by the Lewis and Clark Expedition were passed around for us to look at.

Kip reviewed the Clothes for Kids scheduled for tomorrow November 7.  Stated that Barb St John will call each volunteer to review details.
Dave Huelsmann is to have surgery on his finger today so he and Barb are absent today.   We wish the best for his health.

December 11 is the Christmas Party at Legends.
 
Dale also discussed the November 14 Completely Kids activity.  He is still looking for volunteers.
 
Today’s speaker was Maryanne Eusebio of the Eastern Nebraska Office of Aging Information.  She is the Information and Assistance Position Director.
