Welcome to the Kiwanis Club of West Omaha
 
Founded in 1938 for Kiwanis Club of Greater Omaha and founded in 1961 for Kiwanis Club Westside which have merged together to form the Kiwanis Club of West Omaha. Each has a rich history of community service throughout the years. We are an eclectic mix of ages, genders, occupations, backgrounds and interests. We are all passionate about making our community and the world a better place for children so they can thrive. We are devoted to serving the children in our local community and also children all across the country and worldwide through unique and innovative service projects and fundraising initiatives. Members and invited guests meet each Monday at Noon for food, fellowship, and for the opportunity to hear from speakers about important matters in our region.

The meeting was opened with a prayer led by Deb.  This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Attendance 12 members.

 

The 50/50 drawing was not held.

Kip started the business discussion:
Dale reported on Sacred Heart.  The next reading is February 21 and scheduled readers are Steve, Rich, and Dale.  
Dale also reported that the next Completely Kids is February 19.  Team members include Rich, Joann, and Dale.
 
Kip reported on the District meeting held last Wednesday.  Our Club had five members attend.  The main discussion was the consolidation/change of the numbers of Districts which will result in reducing from 25 to 19 district.  The change is scheduled to take effect in October.  This is due to the decrease in membership in the clubs.
 
If you have not returned the survey you can still provide yours to Kip.
 
Deb has collected and turned in $10 in aluminum cans.  She will submit the funds at the next meeting.
 
Rich asked about an outlet to donate books.  Recently, Eddie stated he would collect magazines to provide at various homes, etc.  More information to follow.
 
Kip reported that he will miss the next three weeks.
 
The Guest Speakers were Grant Schulte and Jim Henley of Omahawks Radio Controlled Airplane Club.

 

The next meeting is scheduled for February 17 at Legends.

Joann reported on Division activities:
The next Division Meeting is scheduled for this Wednesday, February 5 at 7 AM, at First Watch.  The District Governor is expected to attend and may discuss a revised organization scheduled for this coming October.
        
Joann also reported:
There is an Interclub possibility with the SouthWest Club this coming Thursday lunch at the Corner Kick Cantina at 13806 P. 
She also reported that Sarah Ross is currently at the Brookstone Facility which will include in-patient rehabilitation.
        
Jack provided an update on the Scholarship Program:
Application deadline is still March 3.  He has received two applications.
Seven schools were provided invitations.
The Committee will evaluate the applications the end of March for the award of three, $2,000 scholarships.
Award lunch will happen in early April.
 
Jack also reported that he has talked to the Catlin Elementary Principal about the possibility of updating the school sign.  Jack asked the Principal to provide an estimate for our review.  This is for consideration of a large scale Club project.
 
The Guest Speaker was Cesar Garcia from the Project Canopy Program.
