Welcome to the Kiwanis Club of West Omaha
 
Founded in 1938 for Kiwanis Club of Greater Omaha and founded in 1961 for Kiwanis Club Westside which have merged together to form the Kiwanis Club of West Omaha. Each has a rich history of community service throughout the years. We are an eclectic mix of ages, genders, occupations, backgrounds and interests. We are all passionate about making our community and the world a better place for children so they can thrive. We are devoted to serving the children in our local community and also children all across the country and worldwide through unique and innovative service projects and fundraising initiatives. Members and invited guests meet each Monday at Noon for food, fellowship, and for the opportunity to hear from speakers about important matters in our region.

The meeting was opened with a prayer led by Rich. This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

The 50/50 drawing was held but there was not a winner.

Sacred Heart:
Zoo trip was May 9th.          
Flag Program.  
The first placement was last Saturday, Armed Forces Day.  Dennis thanked Frank, Ralph, Deb, Kip, Joel, Rich, Stu/Marsha and 
Laurie for placing and picking up 169 flags. 
Picked up two new accounts. Bringing the total to 171 flags.
Volunteers for the Memorial Day, so far, for the 7 AM placing are Frank, Steve, Rod, Rich, and Craig. For the 6 PM pickup are Frank, Dale, 
and Deb.  Two more volunteers are needed for placement and four more volunteers for pickup.
The fund raiser has currently brought in $6495.00.  Approximately another $2000.00 is to be collected.
 
Volunteers are to meet at 5:30 at North West High School in the Northwest Corner of the athletic area.  Wear the shirt from last year 
if you have one.
 
Kip read the second reading of the slate of officers.  President - Frank, President Elect - need a volunteer, Treasurer - Steve, Secretary - 
Glen, 1-Year Board members - Rich and Tom, and 2-Year Board members - Rod and Dennis.
 
Kip also mentioned our Golf outing is coming soon. Gift cards, raffle prizes, teams and hold sponsors are important in making this a 
success.
 
The Guest speaker was Dr. Linsey Huse - Douglas Country Health Department.
 
No meeting on May 26th, Memorial Day.
 
Next meeting at Legends at noon on June 2nd.

The Sacred Heart Zoo Trip on May 9 went well.  Club volunteers included Greg, Rod, Dale, and Joel.  
The next Sacred Heart reading is May 16.  
Flag Program donations through last week exceed $6,000.  
The first flag date is May 17.  Dennis has sent an information email and although he is receiving volunteer commitments more 
are always needed.  Please contact Dennis if you can help.
Special Olympics is planned for May 23 at Northwest High School.  The Club to support the following events:
Standing Long Jump, Stu who will cover with family members.
Shot Put, Ralph and Rod, who will need volunteers.
A Board Meeting is scheduled for May 13 at 6:30 PM at the TDD offices.
    
Our Guest Speakers were Rick Warren and Rose McCaffrey who discussed the "Refugee Resettlement and Volunteer Opportunities".
         
The next meeting is scheduled for May 12, at Legends.

The Sacred Heart Zoo Trip:
The date is May 9.  You can travel with the bus by arriving at the school by 9 AM.  Otherwise, arrive at the Zoo between 9:30 and 10 AM.
The schedule for the kids is from 10 to 12 with lunch at 12.  Typically the event ends by 1 PM.
Volunteers include Rod, Dale, Dana, Frank, and Kip.  
The next Sacred Heart reading is May 16.  Readers include Glen and Dale.
The next Completely Kids is May 20.  Volunteers not yet identified.
Flag Program donations through last week exceed $4,600.  
The first flag date is May 17 with placement at 7 AM and pickup at 6 PM.  Confirmation of times and volunteers to follow.
Steve also reported that the Golf Event identifying of donors/participants is proceeding although slowly, but picking up. 
Joann repeated that the Social for June 5 at 5 PM, at Standing Bear Lake, is still scheduled.  The program is to include a show by the Omahawks Club. 
Identifying a head count, for the BBQ meals, to follow.  See the information email sent by Joann.

Our Guest Speaker was Tom Goodbarn from the Nebraska Department of Transportation, DOT.  He provided an update on the DOT Omaha Metro   
Construction Activity and schedule.
The next meeting is scheduled for May 12, at Legends.  Other Kiwanis meetings are the Club Board Meeting on May 13 and the next Division 20 meeting on 
June 4.
